Every year in Germany chosen a tree to the "Tree of the Year". The "Dr. Silvius Wodarz Foundation" determines the type. For 2016 the leaved lime ("Tilia cordata") was determined for the tree of the year. In the non-commercial & privat German Tree Project "BALDWALD" (in the sense of "sone here is a forest") grow a total of 13,000 deciduous trees and about 200 of them leaved limes. Here are some pictures of the wonderful lime trees.

Autumn 2015 in germany

Colors and shapes games in the autumn forest: With increasing autumn take the colors and shapes in the woods rather than decreasing. Now the chloroplasts are (substances the green light scatter) from the leaves moved in the tree trunk. For other substances in the leaf are becoming more visible. In this example, Carotenoids which scatter the yellow-orange parts of sunlight or anthocyanins, specializing in the red portion of the solar light.

This conversion of the leaf chemistry leading to the wonderful colors of many deciduous trees in autumn. Unlimited colors and shapes seem possible. Here are a few current pictures from the german goodfathertree-project BALDWALD. Some more on the german side

The new certifcate:

May 24, is the European Day of Parks

In addition to the more familiar "Tree Day" and "Day of the Forest" is the "European Day of Parks" always something unknown. Perhaps a man-made garden landscape is not as popular as forests and trees. And we sense: parks are just a substitute for natural landscapes.

2014 is the motto of the Day of Parks: "Parks for Nature. Parks for well-being. Parks for Peace. ". On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the first World War in 2014 was formulated. A somewhat daring topic link, because even in parks and forests was fought in wars. But the motto is certainly a beautiful Apell.

The German Forest Project "BALDWALD" is no Partk but remains a forest. But forests invite you to stroll and explore and are - compared to many parks - it's free and freely accessible.

November 2013: Get more experience with tree sponsorships: Now chlorophylls without many leaves have adopted beautiful colors. Here's a hazelnut leaf. Also clear two colors of the leaves - silver front, red at the rear - are included.

Get more experience with tree sponsorships: The Common Eichengallwespe (Cynips quercusfolii) comes in the course of two generations ago, with a bisexual, the other propagates unisexual. This animal was now also spotted in a tree Godfather (oak).

Autumn is the time of the fruit, even in the woods. In the German tree sponsors forest BALDWALD also grows the plant call "Aronia chokeberry": The pea-sized, black fruits that can be harvested from mid-August to October, the taste sweet and sour and tart. I've tried them, >> Well, there are delicious <<

September 2013: The autumn colors are more and more. Links lime leaves - as is often to be seen without black spots, in the middle of the beautiful gray thistles and right a rarely seen gray-brown staining of an oak leaf.

Tree of the Year 2013 in germany

In German the European Wild Apple (or crab apple tree) was determined for the tree of year 2013. Botanical name: Malus sylvestrisThe European wild apple is a deciduous tree species in the genus of apples (Malus) in the rose family (Rosaceae). He is perhaps the archetype of the local culture apple. ... It is proving very difficult to distinguish the wild apple of feral forms of culture apples. It is even debatable whether it Malus sylvestris even still exist, or whether it is the crab apple is only a more or less close to the form of the wild apple culture. >>wikipedia in german: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holzapfel

But in the next few weeks will then grow new leaves. While lime, alder and elm have survived the low temperatures apparently good, the young ash, oak and beech trees are hit very hard.

A look at the winter series. At first it looks a bit boring because of the trees stand in rows. But after a few years ago, this impression is gone. We will see it.

In the second year many places are covered almost like a real forest. And there are a lot of work: The rows of trees must be cut, individual trees need help in the fight with the other grasses and herbs and in some places have individual trees are planted.

the entire field was under water

When we wanted to plant in January 2008, the entire field was under water. In northern Germany it has been raining a lot and the nearby river "Aller" is entered through a bank. The field for the New Forest is located in an ancient riverbed. So we have to wait.
